Bringing Hope Four Paws: Spotlight on Hope 4 La Pawz
At Collars Dog Resort, compassion and community are central to everything we do. We’re especially proud of our connection to Hope 4 La Pawz, a remarkable rescue organization with deep roots in Baja California Sur that’s making a difference one pup at a time.

Who Is Hope 4 La Pawz?
Hope 4 La Pawz—also known as Amigos de 4 Patas in Mexico—is a dedicated, foster-based, all-volunteer rescue organization operating in La Paz, Baja California Sur. Registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Washington State, this compassionate group legally receives donations, coordinates adoptions, and manages transport into the U.S. and Canada.
They typically support 40 to 60 dogs at a time, cared for by more than 25 fosters or rescatistas—volunteers who rescue, rehabilitate, and foster these pups until they find forever homes.
Healing with Heart: More Than Just Rescue
The organization goes above and beyond basic rescue operations. Each dog receives food, veterinary care, diagnostics, treatment, spay/neuter services, preventive medicine, and training support. Remarkably, 95% of their funding is directly allocated to the welfare and preparation of the dogs, ensuring every donation fuels real impact.
Hope 4 La Pawz dog rescue mission doesn’t stop there. Through their Bienestar (Wellness) Clinic, they work to educate the local community on the importance of proper animal care, vaccination, and spaying/neutering, aiming to transform attitudes and break the cycle of neglect and abuse. It’s grassroots, meaningful change that ripples throughout the community.
Opening Doors to Forever Homes
Once a dog is ready for adoption, Hope 4 La Pawz connects them with loving families across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. They have a contract with Alaska Airlines Cargo for flat-rate shipping—approximately $350 per kennel for travel within the continental U.S.
Here’s how the journey often unfolds:
-
The pup travels from La Paz to Tijuana by land, crossing the border by foot to clear immigration and customs.
-
From there, volunteers—depending on numbers and cost efficiency—transport them north by van to regional airports like San Diego, L.A., or Seattle.
-
The dog then flies via Alaska Airlines Cargo to its adoptive city.
As per Charlene Angelo, President of Hope 4 La Pawz, the adoption fee is $400 USD plus a $350 transport fee, and while the transport often runs at a loss, the organization happily shoulders the cost for the sake of the pups.

Our Personal Connection
Hope 4 La Pawz holds a special place in our hearts—especially through the dedication of Olivia Sanchez, our General Manager at Collars Dog Resort in Waldo, KC. Olivia’s family lives in La Paz and is personally involved with the rescue. Most recently, they have been fostering two beautiful pups under Hope 4 La Pawz’s care, Hazel and Nelly. Before taking in Nelly, they were fostering a sweet shepherd mix named Zara. Their compassion, rooted in both family and community, makes this connection all the more meaningful.
